Vascular Institute of the Deep South
Problem Definition
The current layout of the website on mobile devices did not meet the user need of the patients in the area who often had older mobile devices that did not load the practice website quickly
The practice was having issues attracting patients in the area. Patients were coming to the practice with complaints of difficulty navigating the website on their mobile phone. Practice wanted to optimise for mobile for these users while still maintaining the same style on their desktop website.
Through discussion with client, it was found that most users in the area they serviced did not own the latest smart phones, and therefore was having issues loading the website on mobile due to their outdated software.
Optimising for mobile experience.
Many aspects of the website were not mobile friendly due to the image size used and the presence of videos on the website.
One of the key ways that I solved this issue was suggesting that:
Videos be hidden mobile view
Simplifying important modules such as the doctors/providers module and services module
Placing the most important module at the top of the page
Reducing repetitive modules and combining them into one
Impact on website:
Creation of a provider module that would remove images on mobile view to reduce loading speed and improve readability of text
Simplified modules that are optimised for mobile friendliness and slow internet
Easier navigation while scrolling on mobile phone
Improved loading speed on mobile devices
Prioritisation of important modules (such as provider module and services module) leading to users accessing them easily
